Software Design Engineer II

Summary:  Responsible for designing, creating and maintaining Microsoft .NET application code for integrated web applications, server APIs and services and database structures in SQL Server.  Must work well in a global team environment, have a solid communication foundation and be a self-starter, able to work independently on complex systems and adapt to new application areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Responsible for bringing products from the conceptual phase, through design, prototype, qualification, and into production, while under the supervision of a senior staff utilizing Navico Product Development (NPD) process.

Design verification through thorough development testing.

Works with global and local team leads and project managers.

Plays a key technical role on development teams.

Work well with customers on support and technical issues

Incorporate and manage offshore development resources

Reports task status in verbal and written methods.

Must be able to write clear and concise test reports.

Works with managers to estimate resources and schedule tasks.

Fundamental research for future development.

Supports other groups (electrical, mechanical, SQA) as needed.

Assists with defining project requirements (FRD, charters, contracts, etc.).

Documents software project design and detailed requirements (DRD, etc.).

Ensures software project requirements are being met by self and other team members.

Assists other team members in resolving complex or critical issues.

Verifies software designs and development at the system level.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science.

6 to 10 years related experience

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Technologies, SQL Server, .NET

Strong knowledge of HTML5, Web Development, C# .NET, VB .NET, TSQL, stored procedures, Entity Framework, PowerShell, Windows platforms, JavaScript, File Transfer, Windows Services,

Strong database design and development skills

Good virtualization understanding a plus

Working knowledge of source control (Git/BitBucket), software development methodologies (Agile preferred) and branching/merging

Strong knowledge of Internet Information Services (IIS) configuration and management

Strong knowledge of load balancing and session management

Strong optimization, profiling and debugging skills.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Good time estimation and planning skills.

Ability to lead global and local development teams.

Ability to adapt to new programming environments.

Ability to work in a Global team environment.

Ability to meet deadlines.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
