Title: Marine System Specialist  Commercial Division – Trainer

Position summary

As the highest level of technical support within the Technical Service team, and reporting to the Technical Service Director, this role supports Navico’s Professional customers. Primarily the person will be responsible for on-board issue resolution and the training of both Navico staff and customers on Professional products. Along with other Professional System Specialists globally this person will provide feedback on field issues to the Research and Development teams and liaise with the Product Management team on customer requirements.

Other key relationships:

  • Direct interface with Professional Systems Specialists in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific
  • Direct interface with global Product Management and Research and Development functions


Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced system design support, including third party product integration
  • Validate system designs
  • Professional systems installation support, both remotely and on site
  • Commissioning support, including sea trials
  • Perform service of product on board vessels
  • Advanced issue identification and resolution
  • Provide input into training material for seminars, practical and online training
  • Provide training to both internal staff and customers
  • Prepare training material for NPI ( New Product Introduction) in conjunction with PM
  • Deliver training on board vessels to system users and ECDIS TYPE SPECIFIC
  • Work closely with the regional and global service organisations, and global Product Management and R&D teams to resolve issues
  • Review product documentation for accuracy, content and ease of use
  • Direct customer support via phone and email where required; including entering, and monitoring of issues entered, in service systems
  • Provide trade show support where required


Key performance indicators:

  • Performance against Service Level Agreements
  • Customer advocacy: Net Promoter Score (NPS) relative to competition



  • 5+ years experience in the Professional/Commercial marine or aviation industry, or relevant military experience
  • Experience with Wheelmark systems such as Gyrocompasses, Autopilots, Radars, VHF comms, AIS, EPRIB and ECIDS charting systems. Experience with Simrad branded products is highly desirable
  • Advanced PC operations, diagnostic and trouble shooting skills
  • Ability to use common diagnostic tools for troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, electronic, electromechanical and hydraulic issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and German
  • FCC, GROL licence, GMDSS certification – AMER only
